2nd International SME Conference 2017
The 2nd International SME Conference organized by Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) and UMT School of Business and Economics is being held from March 15-16, 2017 at PC Hotel Lahore. The theme of the conference was ‘Catalyzing SME Growth Through Research.’ The team ITC participated in this conference.
The inaugural session of the conference was attended by Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT, Sher Ayub Khan, Chief Executive Officer, SMEDA, and Bob Wheeler, Dean SBE. A large number of SME professionals, business representatives, researchers, faculty members and students were also present on the occasion.
Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad addressed the inaugural session. He revealed that the university had encouraged all varsities of Pakistan to focus their research on SME development because the sector constituted 99% of businesses in Pakistan and contributed an estimated 40% to the national economy. Smeda CEO Sher Ayub said the authority was striving to create an environment conducive for SMEs as Pakistan had no option other than the development of small and medium units to meet the challenges of unemployment and poverty. It is worth mentioning that conference partners comprise of George Mason University USA, University of Lahore, UNIDO, SPX Pakistan, bcned and Akhuwat.
